The Challenge

The Crisis Facing Uganda's Children

Uganda continues to face a growing crisis of vulnerable and orphaned children. According to Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) findings, nearly 13% of children in Uganda are orphans — approximately 2.9 million children who have lost one or both parents.

Every child deserves a safe home, love, education, protection, and hope for the future. In the Mpigi District of Uganda, many children continue to face poverty, abandonment, neglect, abuse, hunger, and lack of access to healthcare and education.

Fatherless & Vulnerable Homes

Many children grow up in single-parent households without the support of a father figure. Uganda has one of the youngest and fastest-growing populations in the world, increasing pressure on already struggling families. In many rural areas, children are forced to drop out of school because families cannot afford fees, uniforms, or meals.

Alcohol Abuse & Family Breakdown

According to the WHO, Uganda ranks among the countries with the highest alcohol consumption in Africa — approximately 12.2 litres per person annually, nearly double the African regional average. Cheap locally brewed alcohol contributes to domestic violence, child neglect, and unstable homes.

Lack of Medical Care & Education

Many vulnerable children lack proper healthcare, balanced nutrition, clean water, and quality education. UNICEF reports that child poverty continues to affect millions across Uganda. Without support, children remain trapped in cycles of poverty and hopelessness.
